Decades ago, the only way scientists could come up with how to create energy was by turning nuclear power into electricity. In recent years, scientists and engineers have developed different types of renewable and alternative energy sources.

Here’s a look at some of the most popular types of renewable and alternative energy sources.

Wind Power

The media and Internet is filled with thousands of pictures of huge wind turbines. These wind turbines are responsible for creating energy out of the wind that is created naturally. Wind power is being used to power small cities and homes, but could eventually be turned into a power source for larger areas.

Solar Power

Every place on the planet Earth has access to the sun, so why not create a way to harness the heat and power from the sun and turn it into energy. That is exactly what solar power does. With the use of solar powered panels, the sun’s rays can be turned into electricity and power that can be used by cities, businesses and homes.

Tidal Power

Cities and towns that are located right on the ocean can take advantage of the ocean’s tides and waves. These ever moving ocean currents can be used to create energy using similar techniques to the wind turbines.

As more and more of the world’s natural resources are being consumed, more and more places are going to be looking for cleaner, more effective renewable and alternative energy sources like wind, tidal and solar power sources.

Current Alternative Energy Producers

Most countries would like to be able to switch all their energy use requirements from fossil based sources to renewable ones. They have set lofty goals and are attempting to meet them.  Many of the present day energy needs are being met by renewable energy sources. Most of this advancement is being accomplished by the developed nations of the world like the U.S., Brazil, China, Spain and Germany. Currently, the most utilized form of renewable energy is hydroelectric power. Wind and solar energy, however, are also on the move.

Hydroelectric power throughout the world is developed primarily where dams have been built to control and focus the use of moving water. China has capitalized on this form of renewable energy, particularly with its Three Gorges Dam. China is the world’s leader in the production of hydroelectric power, creating 171 gig watts (GW). The next contender is Canada with 90GW, followed by the U.S. with 79 GW, then Brazil, Russia, India, Norway and then Japan at 27 GW.  These numbers can be a bit confusing when you take into account total electricity usage. For example, Norway is 9th on the list of hydroelectric GW creation, but the amount it does produce in this manner covers 98% of its electricity needs. China, by comparison, who is number one in hydroelectric GW production only meets 18% of its electrical needs using this method.

Wind energy producers starts with the U.S. which produces an installed capacity of 25,369 megawatts (MW), followed by Germany with 23,902 MW,  Spain with 16,740 MW, China with 12,200 MW, Indea, Italy, France , the United Kingdom and so on.

As for Nuclear energy (essentially carbon free) the countries that have the highest installed capacity are first the U.S. with 106 GW followed by France with 63GW, Japan with 49 GW,  Russia with 22 GW then Germany, South Korea, down to Sweden with 9 GW.

Finally solar energy producers are ordered as follows: Germany first with 5,400 MW, Spain with 3,300 MW, Japan at 1,970 MW, the United States at 830 MW and finally South Korea at 350 MW. In the world at large the number of grid-connected solar PVs is 13,000 MW.

Why you Need to Take a Vacation

Business people are living a life of stress and responsibilities to grow their business. The stress is always a hindrance for the growth of the business and this, in turn, affects the profit as well as the personal relationship. It is estimated that one of the most expensive items this winter season isn’t going to be buying the latest winter fashions, but the cost of heating your home. The cost of heating a single family home is estimated to rise at least $100 this winter season. That’s a lot of money to have to be paying out to the energy company.

Luckily there are easy energy saving tips that you can put into effect this winter season. While other people are busy talking about the latest celebrity bankruptcy gossip or hottest TV show you’ll be putting into effect an energy saving plan to help avoid personal bankruptcy.

Here are some great energy saving tips for the winter season.

Close the fireplace damper. A lot of cold air can come through the fireplace as it works almost like a funnel. to the outside. By simply closing the damper you’ll put a muffle on how cold it gets in the room and prevent the heat in your house from having to be turned up. Of course, when you are using the fireplace you will have to keep the damper open, so use this tip when the fireplace is not in use.

Fill in gaps. As houses age gaps are created around the windows and doors. Check your house and caulk around the windows and doors to prevent heat from escaping through the gaps that have developed. Caulking costs as little as $5 and is a very cost effective energy saving method.

Clean vents and unblock them. Your house is heated by vents. It is a good idea to make sure that all vents are clean and unblocked so that heat can go directly through them and into the room. This will prevent you from having to turn the heat up or making the furnace work twice as hard during the winter months.

How to Decide Between an Online and On Campus MBA College

Online colleges have been all the rage in the last decade, but how can you be sure that one is right for you? Many publications and magazines list the best MBA college rankings, but many online schools are ranked just as high as many traditional colleges, and some are even run by the same people. The choice, then, comes down to personal preferences and circumstances.

Online colleges can be an excellent resource for those looking to get their MBA, if those people are good at independent learning. The benefit of online college is that it does not conform into a set schedule. However, the downside of online college is that, for many people, without a set schedule, things don’t get done. If you are a person who can self-start and buckle down in order to work from home, then getting an online MBA may be a good choice. However, if your life requires structure and routine, attending class on campus may be your best bet.

Another factor to consider is geography. For those who live in a major metropolitan area, the choices for higher education universities are abundant. For those who live in the suburbs or in more rural areas, there may be far fewer choices. While schooling is available for everyone no matter what area they live in, they right schooling may require a longer commute for some, which is why online classes may be a great choice.

Finally, deciding how your schedule should look for the years spent acquiring an MBA will greatly influence your school of choice. Many graduate classes are built around traditional work days and work weeks, but if your job is more non-traditional, you may have no choice but to take online classes. By deciding which factors are important to you, you can choose which school is right for you.
